A Message about Legal Concerns:
We’ve received concerns about the legality of selling KAMALATALE, and we'd like to reassure everybody that the game does not contain assets that infringe on the copyrights of other games, nor is its programming derived from any other titles. KAMALATALE was crafted independently as a piece of satire, protected under fair use and parody laws, and it is not intended to be a fangame.
While the game may pay homage to other works, it uses only original assets and takes place within its own world.
The decision to parody Undertale serves as a creative vehicle for political satire rather than simply a tribute or fangame. Undertale's message about peace and empathy that resonates deeply with American ideals, making it a fitting foundation for a satire about the 2024 political landscape. We’re just a small team of developers who set out to create something comedic and relevant to the times, while also putting a lot of thought into it. If any accidental infringements are discovered—such as leftover reference files—we urge you to let us know so we can address them immediately. KAMALATALE is a labor of love, featuring an original soundtrack, custom art, and an hour-long RPG experience, priced to reflect the work we’ve put into it.
We’re committed to respecting the work of other creators, just as we hope our efforts will be respected in turn.

it’s not because of the copyright concerns, steam was right to remove the game because it violates 18 U.S.C. § 871, it is illegal to threaten a current or former US president with violence, this games depicts violence against a US president, it needs to be removed here, let’s report the under this law violation
It doesn't violate that law because we don't threaten the president, or any former presidents. (The law also isn't about former presidents, but even if it was..) Steam has games where you, the player, can outright kill multiple former presidents, including our current one: yet our game, that features an anti-political violence message, got banned.
yeah this is def not legal, you should probably take it down/make it free before you get in REAL legal troubles. its still illegal to sell fangames that use even edited assets
ok, you ripped ut fonts and sprites, songs but edited so it uses same soundfont from undertale (example; white house song just being ruins theme but just beats changed) , sfx, concepts, and literally the art style and gameplay aspect. this is a fangame by definition, and it ILLEGAL to make this paid. using others work and profiting off of it is ILLEGAL.
another thing is that this literally uses tml engine, a engine FOR UNDERTALE FANGAMES. weather its changed enough or not you still gotta credit that person anyway, and its still undertale.. there is so much fraud and stealing behind this game that its so awful. do better, and stop making this a paid game. its ILLEGAL.
It's ok to be angry but it's not really illegal, at least Toby Fox is the only one to decide if he wants to fight parody law, something that protects a massive amount of internet content. TML engine is also MIT (source; their github), which permits commerical use.
just because toby is silent about his stuff being paid doesnt mean its a good thing to do or not illegal. put this game on steam for $5 and they will strike it down :skull:
Toby is not being silent, its called being cool with things. If he had enough he would let it be known. Toby started in ROMhacks, I bet he loves the creativity.
